Station Profile & Background Information
Celebrating over 30 years on air, WHBC 830AM Howard University’s student operated radio station is a major media outlet for Howard University’ student body. WHBC 830AM Channel 51 has the campus’ ear and is apart of the Howard student collegiate lifestyle.

WHBC was founded in 1974 by a talented student from the Howard University Department of Radio, Television, & Film. WHBC has grown from its humble beginnings into a cutting edge college radio station.

From its founding date, WHBC 830AM has been serving the Howard University community, beginning as a subsidiary of the Howard University Radio, Television and Film Department in the Howard University John H. Johnson School of Communications. With guidance from its parent station WHUR 96.3 FM, WHBC 830 AM has developed into a powerhouse for urban contemporary music, targeting over 10,500 Howard University students ages 18-34.

WHBC operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, broadcasting on Channel 51 of the University’s residential TV network (ResNet). On Channel 51, you can hear great music while watching you favorite on-air personalities during their show times. WHBC is dedicated to giving students the opportunity to learn about radio and also providing them with hands-on training.

WHBC 830AM has added to the renowned Howard University legacy by becoming one of the most advanced college radio stations in the country. At the Black College Radio Conference, WHBC 830 AM has won the following awards:
